Omission Beer This spring the Craft Brew Alliance will be unveiling two gluten-free craft beers to the market.  The Omission Lager and Omission Pale Ale are designed to capitalize on the gluten-free community that are looking for a good craft beer.  The Omission beers are being brewed in Portland, Oregon by Widmer Brothers Brewing.  A proprietary brewing process is being used to reduce the gluten levels to well below the widely accepted international gluten-free standard of 20 parts per million (ppm) for food and beverages.

Omission doesn’t just stamp the bottle with a gluten-free label, they also invite drinkers to see the test results for themselves.  Each bottle of Omission beer is stamped with a date code indicating when it was brewed and bottled. Consumers are encouraged to visit www.OmissionTests.com, where they can enter the code from their bottle and view their beer’s R5 competitive ELISA test results.

The Omission Beer is joining the ranks of Gluten-Free beers that while the market is new and fresh, it is becoming quickly crowded by brewers in the Oregon region.

Newcastle No Bollocks Campaign

Newcastle began their first national TV advertising  campaign, “No Bollocks”, this week.  The ads focus on the quality ingredients and process of brewing the favored New England beer.  At the end, the speaker then makes a corny joke about the reason that the advertisement focuses on the hands that brew the beer because the actress is not particularly good looking.

“With this campaign we are going to be very honest with our consumers. Our guys know it when they are marketed to, so we believe it’s time for a beer brand to give it to them straight, just like their best mates would do,” said Charles van Es, brand director, Newcastle Brown Ale. “The people of Newcastle, England – Geordies – don’t take themselves too seriously, love a good joke, and most importantly, they tell it like it is. Our ads celebrate these traits by using a no-nonsense approach, where we are not over promising anything.”

I found the advertisement to be a bit weak.  Currently only three of the six total videos filmed in New England have been released on their Youtube page.  Hopefully the next three videos will be stronger, bolder, and provide a better joke at the end.
